The OR Pre-Op PACU/Children's Surgery Center is one unit within the Perioperative Services division that delivers and supports patient care for parents transitioning from all of the following areas: 24 Main Operating Rooms, 4 Operating Rooms and a Treatment Room in Children's Surgery Center, and all general anesthetic patients from ancillary procedure areas throughout the hospital, patients who become critically ill throughout the hospital and need a higher level of monitoring care than is currently available. Additionally, this position is responsible for supervising the HUSC III employees to provide and maintain efficient clerical support and oversight to ensure excellent customer services is provided to patients and families by the HUSC and Service Ambassador groups. This position supervises coordination of patient care services to promote efficient patient flow through the OR Pre-Op PACU. This position functions as a supervisor and as a working resource person in the PR Pre-Op PACU and Children's Surgery Center.

Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position

  • American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross Basic Life Support (BLS), or UC Davis Health CPR.
  • Bachelor's Degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training
  • Multiple years of experience working as a hospital unit clerk and/or medical office coordinator.
  • Customer service experience in a healthcare environment
  • EMR Experience
  • Proficiency in all the skills, knowledge and abilities of the HUSC III job description for the OR Pre-Op PACU/CUS.
  • Knowledge of OR Pre-Op PACU computer data collection processes.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective interpersonal communication and relationships with coworkers.
  • Demonstrates analytical skills to evaluate data processes, make decisions, provide recommendations, and develop justification to resolve issues that lead to a satisfactory conclusion.
  • Strong problem-solving skills to independently define a problem and identify resources available to help resolve problems, create viable solutions and take action necessary to implement them.
  • Decision making abilities skills to independently exercise delegated authority to take action and to recognize when it is appropriate to seek assistance from others when limits of delegated authority have been reached.
  • Demonstrates excellent organizational skills to establish workload priorities to enable timely completion of responsibilities.

  • Must be able to use a computer well enough to follow basic programs to retrieve data and print out needed information.
  • Hear and speak well enough to communicate with others directly and over the phone.
  • Must be able to work with adaptability, flexibility, and maintain composure during stressful and/or adverse conditions.

  • Bachelors degree in a related field.
  • Recent Supervisory experience in a Union environment.

Department Overview

The Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) has space for 63 beds or gurneys. The PACU is focused on the recovery of patients from anesthetic agents, airway management, pain control, sedation, and hemodynamic monitoring for post-surgical adult and pediatric patients as well as patients from other units such as radiology, GI lab, pulmonary lab, cardiac catheterization lab, and labor and delivery. The PACU may function as an overflow ICU when the ICUs are at capacity. There are two PACUs; Pavilion PACU (63 beds) and CSC PACU (18 beds).

Work Environment
