The Commonwealth of Massachusetts is seeking a Paver to join their team. The role involves performing various tasks related to minor construction and maintenance of public roads and walkways, including operating specialized equipment and ensuring safety protocols are followed. Candidates should have a minimum of two years of relevant experience and reside in Boston.

Under general supervision, performs asphalt raking, concrete finishing, stone cutting, edgestone setting, and bricklaying work in minor construction, repair, and patching of highways, sidewalks, and other public ways; rakes and tamps asphalt; patches streets and sidewalks with brick, concrete, paving block and bituminous mix and performs related work as required.
Works with specialized equipment including jackhammers, rotary drills, power-actuated fasteners, and other industry tools
Works with and inserts asphalt, and other materials into multi-modal ways.
Responsible for the distribution of asphalt by operating the paver machine for the correct width and depth.
Operates and maintains the paver machine to distribute asphalt at the correct width and depth on the roadway. Includes safe start-up, operation, and close-down.
Assists crew in paving operations including labor work as needed to complete the project.
Adheres to all safety rules and works safely on all jobs.
Performs roadway repair on active streets.
Paves and maintains multimodal access ways for constituents, i.e. bus lanes, bicycle lanes, pedestrian walkways, and streets.
Ability to work with other members of the crew and communicate effectively and efficiently.
Ensure fluid levels are sufficient for the job.
Report immediately to the foreman or supervisor any damage to the equipment or safety hazards or accidents
Responds to and handles ConstituentRelationship Management (CMR) cases.
May use mobile technology to communicate with supervisors and inspectors regarding Constituent Relationship Management (CMR) cases
Supports other Public Works Divisions as requested.
Performs related work as required.
Required to work in any emergency as directed by the Chief of Streets or designee.
Applicants must have at least (2) two years of paid experience in this or related work.
Must be a resident of the city of Boston.
Ability to exercise good judgement and focus on details as required by the job.
