Job summary

The State of South Dakota seeks a Pavement Smoothness Technician for the Department of Transportation in Pierre, SD. The role centers on collecting inertial profiler pavement data and producing smoothness reports for newly constructed pavements.

Laboratory testing of highway materials is also required, with travel across the state and occasional extended workdays. An associate degree and valid driver's license are needed; certifications in testing areas are encouraged.

Qualifications

• Associate degree in civil engineering technology or related field.
• Experience in highway construction inspection and materials testing is preferred.
• Certification in materials testing areas is required within first year of employment.

Responsibilities

• Collect inertial profiler pavement data for new asphalt and concrete pavements and prepare reports.
• Perform highway construction materials testing in the Central Materials Laboratory.
• Travel within South Dakota; outdoor work in all weather conditions and some extended workdays.
