Job summary

State of Nebraska, Nebraska Department of Transportation, seeks a Pavement Engineer to provide statewide technical leadership in asphalt or PCC pavements. The role focuses on design standards, materials acceptance, and life‑cycle performance across the highway system.

You will support NDOT districts and consultants, lead QA processes, mentor lab staff, and deliver technical reports to strengthen pavement engineering statewide. This is a challenging, influential role with growth opportunities.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline and a PE license by employment or within 90 days.
• Experience applying NDOT standards, specs, test methods for pavement design and materials.
• Strong written and oral communication; ability to lead multi‑disciplinary teams.

Responsibilities

• Serve as SME in asphalt or PCC pavements providing statewide leadership and guidance.
• Lead development and implementation of NDOT pavement design standards and specs.
• Provide expert technical support to districts and project managers throughout the lifecycle.
• Oversee QA processes for pavement materials and testing.
• Supervise laboratory staff and mentor team members.
• Prepare technical reports, summaries, and guidance documents for staff.
• Coordinate with universities, FHWA, and other agencies to align with best practices.
