Job summary

American Rock Products, a CRH company, is seeking a motivated laborer to assist asphalt paving crews on various outdoor projects. You will help prepare, grade and lay asphalt, operating basic tools and equipment under supervision.

The role offers on-site training, safety-focused culture, and opportunities for overtime depending on workload. Prior construction exposure is helpful, but training is provided.

Qualifications

• Must pass pre-employment physical exam and drug testing.
• Must have US work authorization and valid driver's license.
• Ability to work OT and weekends/holidays as needed.
• Compliance with OSHA, MSHA, DOT and company/state rules.

Responsibilities

• Shovel, rake and compact materials for grade and pave operations.
• Operate asphalt and concrete saws and power tools to remove debris.
• Traffic control including flagging and setup of signs and barriers.
• Operate water truck, oil distributors and other equipment as instructed.
• Measure, mark, paint and stake for grade and pave operations.
• Load/unload and clean tools; assist other crew members as needed.
• Communicate with supervisors about material quality and hazards.
• Maintain safety and participate in an inclusive work environment.

Wage Scale for Position:

$20/hr to $22/hr DOE w/ potential for overtime and prevailing wage opportunities

Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)

• Shovel, rake and compact materials in grade and pave operations
• Operate asphalt saw, concrete saw, chain saw and other power tools to remove asphalt and debris
• Traffic control, including flagging and set-up of signs, cones and barriers
• Operate water truck, oil distributors and other equipment as instructed
• Perform underground adjustments (i.e. manholes, catch basins).
• Measure, mark, paint and stake per measurements for grade and pave operations
• Load, unload from work truck and clean tools and equipment as needed
• Routinely assist other members of the work force in different areas of production.
• Promptly communicate with supervisors on any flaws in material.
• Take action to avoid potential hazards or obstructions.
• Other tasks and duties as assigned to meet business needs.
• Regular and timely attendance.
• Participate in and promote an inclusive work environment.

Minimum Qualifications

• Safety minded professional who demonstrates good performance, attendance and punctuality.
• Must pass pre-employment physical exam and pre-employment controlled substance testing.
• Demonstrates the ability to work independently, without direct supervision.
• Demonstrates the ability to work overtime and weekends/holidays as needed.
• Demonstrates the ability to conform to and maintain OSHA, MSHA, DOT and all other company or state rules and regulations.
• Must have current US Authorization to work or ability to obtain without company assistance prior to start date.
• Must have a valid driver’s license.

Preferred Qualifications

• High school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred.
• Previous asphalt grade/pave operations and/or construction related experience preferred.
• Class A CDL with self-certification of non-excepted interstate and current DOT medical card preferred
