Job summary

Yeshiva University’s University Libraries seeks a staff Librarian to provide professional library services and support for the university community.

Responsibilities include collection development, cataloging and metadata, user instruction, reference service, and space planning to meet evolving scholarly needs.

The position requires a Master’s Degree in Library Science and demonstrated expertise in library technologies, with evening hours Monday–Thursday and Sunday.

Qualifications

  • Must hold a Master’s in Library Science and related experience.
  • Excellent grasp of library principles, processes, software, technology, and resources.
  • Ability to learn new techniques and adapt to new paradigms.
  • Expertise in at least one academic discipline.
  • Excellent listening and communication skills.
  • Customer service demeanor and patience when dealing with patrons.

Responsibilities

  • Performs library Collection Development and Collection Management tasks including selection for acquisition of physical and electronic materials, databases, and websites.
  • Guides Library patrons in use of resources and research via in-person, phone, email, and chat; teaches library classes; creates guides and web content.
  • Performs cataloging and metadata services for library materials; trains staff and ensures OPAC integrity.
  • Plans utilization of library space, facilities, and projects.
  • Stays current with developments in the library profession and scholarly communication.
  • Engages in research and professional activities such as publication and lectures.
