Qualifications

• Must be a US citizen and at least 21 years old at hire.
• Valid driver's license required.
• 60 semester hours of college credits or two years of full-time sworn police officer experience.
• Licensed by or licensable under MCOLES standards.
• Veterans encouraged to apply and eligible for licensing provisions.
• Submit driver’s license, birth certificate, college transcripts and MCOLES licensing/enrollment documents with the application.
• All applicants must pass background checks and criminal history requirements.

Responsibilities

• Respond to emergency and non-emergency calls for service.
• Investigate illegal activities, traffic crashes, and suspicious situations.
• Prepare incident reports and testify in court when required.
• Arrest and transport suspects.
• Patrol assigned areas by vehicle and on foot.
• Gather and log evidence; enforce laws at local, state, and federal levels.
• Interview victims, suspects, and witnesses.
• Handle and maintain proficiency with department weapons.
• Assist the public and guide them toward proper resources (Community Policing).
