Job summary

The City of Garnett is seeking a full-time Patrol Officer for the Garnett Police Department. The ideal candidate is intelligent, self-motivated, community-oriented, with strong communication and problem-solving skills and a high level of integrity.

Officers work 12-hour shifts with every other Friday through Sunday off. Benefits include extensive leave, 100% employer-paid medical, dental, and vision for the employee, a $3,500 housing bonus, a take-home vehicle up to 30 miles after probation,

Qualifications

• Must be a United States citizen
• 21 years of age or older at appointment
• High school diploma or GED or equivalent
• Valid Kansas driver’s license; firearm ownership/usage per Gun Control Act required
• No felony convictions or serious disqualifying offenses within stated periods
• Must pass aptitude test, polygraph, background check, interview, drug screen, fitness test and psychological testing

Responsibilities

• Enforce federal, state and local laws and ordinances
• Take calls for service and patrol designated areas
• Investigate complaints and cite/arrest offenders as needed
• Prepare/serve civil processes and protect persons and property
• Work self-initiated tasks during downtime as prioritized by supervisors
