The Chronicle Of Higher Education, Inc. is seeking a Campus Safety Patrol Officer to ensure safety within the Hood College community. The role includes making patrols, responding to incidents, and engaging with students and staff to promote safety and awareness.
The successful candidate will possess strong communication and leadership skills, and must have a high school diploma or GED with 2-3 years of relevant experience. Additional responsibilities include reporting incidents, providing medical transportation, and participating in community safety programs.
Under the general direction of the Director of Campus Safety, the Campus Safety Patrol Officer candidate must be able to participate in the holistic learning process that fosters mental and physical growth for student success. The candidate must also be student service oriented and able to exhibit patience, leadership, and communication skills in order to gain and retain trust within the Hood and greater Frederick community.
The candidate will also prove demonstrated skillsets in the security and protection of students, faculty, staff, alumni, guests, and property within the College community. The candidate must show a demonstrated knowledge and understanding of College policies and procedures, along with federal, state and county laws, and the appropriate application of each. The candidate must be available to work rotating shifts and rotating days off and is subject to emergency recall 24 hours per day, seven days per week. The candidate must also be available to work holidays, special events, and weekends. Successful candidates must be able to pass a background check.

Campus security experience ideal; security experience preferred.
Ability to monitor computer aided dispatching systems. Proficient in MS Office tools (Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint), e‑mail and Internet. Ability to learn new applications quickly including organization‑wide information systems and department‑specific software applications.
Strong oral and written communication skills. Ability to effectively provide information and positively respond to questions from both external and internal customers both in person and by phone. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
Proficient with statistical and financial concepts. Must have the ability to apply those concepts to tracking, projections, goal‑setting and interpreting reports. Must be able to draw conclusions from reports and make cost‑effective decisions regarding programs.
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a number of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Ability to work independently and as a member of a group in developing and executing project plans. Ability to work in theoretical arena and apply logic as appropriate.
This is a non‑exempt position with a starting hourly rate of $17.75 per hour. Additional compensation may include shift differential and overtime. Hood College has provided a compensation rate representing its good‑faith estimate of what the College may pay for the position at the time of posting. The College may ultimately pay more or less than the posted compensation range.
