Job summary

The Alton, NH Police Department is seeking a Patrol Officer to perform responsible police work protecting the community through crime prevention, peacekeeping, traffic regulation, and emergency response.

You'll conduct high visibility patrols, pursue arrests, respond to emergencies, investigate incidents, and document cases. Applicants must pass physical agility, oral interview, medical exam, and a thorough background check including polygraph and psychological evaluations.

Responsibilities

• The Patrol Officer will perform responsible police work involving the protection and safety of the community through the prevention of crime, preserving peace, regulating traffic, providing emergency services, and performing related duties as required.
• Conduct high visibility patrol by car, motorcycle, boat, or on foot to preserve the peace, discourage crime, and protect life and property.
• Apprehend and arrest offenders for violating the law.
• Respond to emergency and non-emergency calls for service, including but not limited to domestic disturbances, traffic crashes, burglaries, untimely deaths, animal complaints, road hazards, civil complaints, neighbor disputes, etc.
• Direct traffic and maintain crowd control during special events and emergency situations.
• Conduct thorough investigation of various crimes, traffic crashes, unattended deaths, etc., and collect, preserve, process, log evidence; interview victims and witnesses; interrogate suspects.
• Establish and preserve good relations with the general public by answering questions of concern and assisting those needing help.
• Initiate and complete police reports, legal documents, and other required paperwork to document incidents, arrests, accidents, and unusual events in a timely manner.
• Testify in courts and hearings; prepare and present case evidence and information.
• Attend regular and elective training to enhance law enforcement skills including firearms proficiency, response to resistance, investigative skills, first aid, procedures, equipment, and related subjects.
• Perform other duties as specified.

• Fairly and impartially enforce federal, state, and local laws, ordinances, and administrative regulations.
• Conduct high visibility patrol by car, motorcycle, boat, or on foot in order to preserve the peace, to discourage crime, and to protect life and property.
• Apprehend and arrest offenders for violating the law.
• Respond to emergency and non-emergency calls for service, including but not limited to domestic disturbances, traffic crashes, burglaries, untimely deaths, animal complaints, road hazards, civil complaints, neighbor disputes, etc.
• Direct traffic and and maintain crowd control during special events and emergency situations.
• Conduct thorough investigation of various crimes, traffic crashes, unattended deaths, etc., to include identifying, collecting, preserving, processing, and logging evidence; locating and interviewing victims and witnesses; and identifying and interrogating suspects.
