Job summary

Rochester Police Department seeks a Police Officer to perform patrol, investigations, traffic control, and a variety of duties designed to preserve peace and protect life and property in the City of Rochester.

The officer works under general supervision, exercises independent judgment in emergencies, and completes reports in accordance with departmental procedures and statutes. Duties include enforcing laws, responding to incidents, and collaborating with other agencies.

Qualifications

• Must meet NH requirements for certified Police Officer (RSA 105-A).
• Complete Rochester Police Department recruit training program.
• Meet department and NH requirements for qualification with issued weapons.
• Meet additional requirements as determined by Police Commission and Chief of Police.

Responsibilities

• Patrol assigned areas by vehicle or foot; monitor for violations and take enforcement action.
• Negotiate settlements in domestic disputes and incidents of disorder.
• Receive dispatch orders and respond to calls, secure crime scenes, and apply laws appropriately.
• Direct traffic at accidents and disasters; issue summonses or warnings as needed.
• Assist in investigating crimes; collect evidence and interview witnesses.
• Coordinate with other law enforcement for information sharing and joint enforcement.
• Complete required reports and follow up on unsolved crimes per SOPs.
• Assist the public with guidance and safety talks to groups when needed.
• Testify in court in traffic and criminal cases as required.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
