Job summary

The City of Rochester, NH is seeking a Police Officer to perform patrol, investigations, traffic control, and related duties to maintain peace and protect life and property. You will work under supervision, exercise independent judgment in emergencies, testify in court when required, and assist in crime scene management and community safety programs.

Minimum qualifications include NH RSA 105-A certification, recruit training completion, weapons qualification, and potential advancement to Master

Qualifications

• Must meet all established requirements for certified Police Officer as described in RSA 105-A and NH Police Standards and Training Council Rules.
• Satisfactorily complete the Rochester Police Department recruit training program.
• Must meet Rochester Police Department and State of NH requirements for qualification with Department issued weapons.
• Meet other such requirements as determined by the Police Commission and the Chief of Police.
• Master Patrol designation qualifications include: 10 years sworn service, no discipline in the year prior, 82.5 last eval score, and completion of approved supervisors course or two specialized instruction areas (e.g., firearms, driving instructor, etc.).
• Upon meeting minimum requirements an officer may petition to receive Master Police Officer status on anniversary month.
• Failure to meet requirements may result in removal from Master Patrol status and reassignment.

Responsibilities

• Patrols in an assigned geographical area of the city in a police vehicle or on foot, checks security of vacant homes and buildings, and enforces laws.
• Negotiates settlements in domestic disputes, burglaries, larcenies, vandalism, and other incidents.
• Receives dispatch orders, responds to calls, and secures crime scenes; applies state, federal, and local laws as appropriate.
• Directs traffic at accidents and disaster scenes, investigates traffic crashes, and issues summonses or warnings as needed.
• Assists in investigating crimes and locating and apprehending suspects; collects evidence and interviews witnesses.
• Coordinates with other law enforcement to share information and coordinate actions.
• Completes reports and records per SOPs and conducts follow-up on unsolved cases.
• Assists the public and may provide safety talks to children and civic groups.
• Testifies in court and presents sworn evidence in traffic and criminal cases.
• Performs related duties as required.
