Job summary

The Navasota Police Department seeks a dedicated patrol officer to protect residents and enforce laws. Duties include patrolling by vehicle or foot, responding to emergencies and complaints, directing traffic, and conducting investigations.

You will also handle warrants, arrests, and evidence, with regular court appearances. Requirements include a high school diploma or GED, a current Texas TCOLE license or ability to obtain one, and the ability to communicate clearly both orally and in writing.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of state, federal, and local laws and police procedures.
• Ability to follow written and oral instructions and work with co-workers and the public.
• Ability to drive vehicle under emergency conditions and maintain driving record.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, other law enforcement agencies, officials, and the public.
• Proficiency in both oral and written communication.

Responsibilities

• Patrols assigned area by vehicle or foot to prevent crimes and enforce laws.
• Responds to emergency calls and routine complaints and takes actions as needed.
• Directs traffic, uses radar, issues traffic citations, and investigates accidents.
• Questions witnesses, complainants, and suspects, and takes statements.
• Serves warrants and makes arrests.
• Keeps records and reports; appears in court as required.
• Shares information with other agencies and conducts security checks.
• Responds to animal control calls.
• Assists in criminal investigations including sexual assault, child abuse, narcotics, and homicide cases.
• Maintains on-call status and works overtime as necessary.
• Specializes in traffic, suspect apprehension, or other areas as assigned.
• Occasionally relieves Communications Operator.
