Qualifications

  • Must be a U.S. citizen, at least 21 years of age.
  • Must hold a Basic Peace Officer’s License issued by TCOLE or be eligible to obtain.
  • High School Diploma or G.E.D. Certificate.
  • DD214 for U.S. military service.
  • Visual acuity in both eyes, correctable to at least 20/20 binocular vision.
  • Valid driver license with acceptable driving record.
  • Computer literate.
  • Must meet all physical requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Patrols City in radio-equipped vehicle; protect life and property; enforce laws.
  • Conducts preliminary investigations of disturbances, burglaries, thefts, accidents, and other incidents.
  • Checks buildings for physical security.
  • Responds to traffic incidents and emergencies; controls traffic flow.
  • Stops drivers, issues citations, and makes arrests as needed.
  • Directs traffic at fires, events, and emergencies.
  • Interviews victims and witnesses; interrogates suspects; gathers evidence.
  • Searches, fingerprints, transports, and books prisoners.
  • Prepares arrest reports and documents incidents observed.
  • Plans and delivers crime prevention programs to schools, churches, businesses.
  • Maintains contact with citizens regarding potential problems.
