Job summary

Qualifications

• Knowledge of Federal Law, Tennessee Code Annotated Sections 39 and 55 related to civil and criminal law.
• Knowledge of City of Pigeon Forge ordinances and Police department policies and procedures.
• Knowledge of civil and criminal court proceedings, evidence, and service of warrants.
• Knowledge of surveillance, apprehension, warrants, and motor vehicle regulations.
• Knowledge of first aid practices for exposure to pathogens.
• Knowledge of evidence handling and collection methods.
• Knowledge of the local geographic area and major streets.
• Ability to react quickly to dangerous or volatile situations.
• Ability to perform physically demanding work in various weather conditions.
• Ability to interact professionally with coworkers, constituents and officials.
• Ability to plan, organize and meet deadlines with good decision making.
• Ability to acquire new job-related information as required.
• Ability to comply with training requirements.
• Skill with modern law enforcement weapons (handguns, rifles, shotguns).
• Skill with emergency equipment (radar, radios, sirens).
• Skill in operating law enforcement vehicles at high speeds.

Responsibilities

• Conduct patrols of commercial properties and private neighborhoods to ensure safety and security.
• Investigate citizen complaints and respond to calls for service; determine intervention levels.
• Respond to radio dispatches and calls for service.
• Prepare reports and evidence for court proceedings; assist with testimony.
• Work with community groups and serve on boards as directed by the Chief of Police.
• Investigate traffic accidents and manage traffic flow around sites.
• Assist owners with crime prevention techniques and programs.
• Apprehend individuals suspected of criminal activity and provide safe custody.
• Provide testimony and evidence in court proceedings.
• Respond to volatile situations and attempt de-escalation where possible.
• Participate in training to maintain required certifications.
• Inspect equipment and vehicles daily for maintenance and safety.
• Inspect properties upon request for safety concerns.
• Prepare and log daily activity reports in computer databases.
• Participate in special units such as bomb squad, SWAT, HAZMAT as needed.
• Maintain public order at events and community activities.
