Responsibilities:
- Transport patients and equipment between areas using wheelchairs, stretchers, or beds, including those with oxygen tanks, IV pumps, and special equipment.
- Assist in transferring patients to and from beds, wheelchairs, or stretchers.
- Transport patients during discharge, opening doors as needed.
- Ensure oxygen tanks are properly filled before transport.
- Assist and communicate effectively with patients and visitors within the hospital environment.
- Notify nursing staff and clinicians of patient arrivals and departures.
- Verify patient identification and safety precautions, including comparing pager information with wristbands and medical charts.
- Disinfect and maintain transportation equipment, perform safety checks, and document findings.
- Report malfunctioning equipment for repair or replacement.
- Transport equipment and linen carts to designated areas.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED.
Work Requirements:
- Organizational skills, decisive judgment, problem-solving, and good communication skills.
- Ability to work independently, handle multiple tasks, and operate under stress.
- Three months of on-the-job training post-selection to learn hospital procedures and safety protocols.
Physical Requirements:
- Full range of motion, manual dexterity, and eye/hand coordination.
- Normal or corrected vision and hearing.
- Exposure to communicable diseases.
- Ability to exert force up to 100 lbs occasionally and 25-50 lbs frequently.
- Physical demands exceed those of medium work classification.
Protective Equipment:
- Use of PPE as required by standard precautions.
