Patient Transporter – Sharp Chula Vista Medical Center (Per Diem – Variable Shift)

• Weekend Requirements: Every Other
• On-Call Required: No
• Hourly Pay Range: $27.500 – $30.400 – $33.530
• Union: Requires SEIU-UHW membership within 31 days of hire

What You Will Do

Patient Transporters assist with mobilizing patients using lift equipment and/or mobilization aids and other trained healthcare professionals to provide safe and effective patient transports throughout the facility. They transport equipment, supplies, specimens, and patients using the transport tracking system, ensuring that patients are monitored and the environmental pathway is safe for travel.

Required Qualifications

• H.S. Diploma or Equivalent
• AHA Basic Life Support for Healthcare Professional (AHA BLS Healthcare)

Preferred Qualifications

• 1 year hospital experience or similar experience

Essential Functions

• Communication and teamwork: Practice effective communication in a demanding environment, demonstrate positive interpersonal skills and attitude toward patients, visitors, physicians, coworkers, supervisors, and all hospital staff; communicate relevant patient information; recognize barriers to transporting and communicate with patients and their plan of care; communicate incomplete transports; communicate with all team members regarding day‑to‑day operations, barriers, and/or obstacles for transporting.
• Safety: Effectively provide safe and effective transports of patients utilizing correct mode of travel; comply with all mobility requirements and ensure equipment is available, stored properly, and cleaned regularly; demonstrate ability to transfer and transport patients with assistance, with complex clinical support equipment safely, maintaining integrity of intravenous lines, suction devices, feeding tubes, etc.; take action in life‑threatening situations and immediately notify the licensed nurse.
• Patient Mobilization: Role model and utilize appropriate use of lift and mobilization equipment and/or aids; under direction of the Registered Nurse, ambulate patient utilizing the appropriate equipment or assist device; assist with lateral and supine patient transfers from bed to chair, chair to bed, bed to gurney, gurney to bed, bed to bed, etc.
• Transport Patients and Items: Correctly utilize the transport tracking system for transporting patients and items; track and progress jobs; accept jobs – limited job rejections; delay and cancel jobs; use mini tasks and task assistance when available; correctly identify patients using two patient identifiers; transport patient with required hand‑off protocol; maintain the log book for signing patients in and out of the morgue.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Knowledge of proper body mechanics for safe transfer of patient and self.
• Working knowledge of medical terminology.
