Job summary

Sharp HealthCare is hiring a Driver - Patient Transport to move patients and supplies between facilities within a hospital system. You will operate a hospital vehicle, assist passengers, and uphold safety and customer service standards.

The role requires a CA driver’s license and knowledge of wheelchair equipment; weekend shifts are not required and the schedule runs 8 AM to 4 PM. Union membership is required under the applicable CBA, with related terms on hire.

Qualifications

• Driver's License from CA DMV is REQUIRED.
• HS Diploma or Equivalent preferred.
• Passenger Transportation Endorsement (P) is PREFERRED.

Responsibilities

• Transporting passengers and delivering property in a hospital vehicle to Sharp HealthCare facilities.
• Maintain safety and courtesy; ensure passengers use seat belts and assist with boarding.
• Follow department protocol for pick up/delivery and document mileage and vehicle checks.
• Perform pre-trip safety inspections and report any vehicle issues to supervisor.
• Communicate effectively with passengers and staff; uphold professional conduct.

• Hourly Pay Range (Minimum - Midpoint - Maximum): $25.000 - $27.640 - $30.490

This position is covered by a Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) with SEIU-UHW. As part of the terms of employment, employees in this role are required to join the union within 31 days of hire and remain a member (e.g. dues paying, fee paying, religious exception contributor) for the duration of the collective bargaining agreement.

This position was originally posted to ratified SEIU members from 08/13/26 – 08/21/26. The position is now available to be filled by internal candidates that are not members of the ratified Bargaining Unit or External candidates to Sharp.

  Properly loads and secures wheelchairs or other mobility devices.
  Assures there is no smoking in vehicle.
  Functions effectively in stressful situations.
  Immediately reports any passenger issues or problems to supervisor.
  Does not utilize cell phones while driving. Personal cell phones may only be used during scheduled breaks.
• Vehicle maintenance
  Performs pre-trip safety inspection on assigned vehicle.
  Completes daily vehicle maintenance and safety inspection report.
  Practices safe, defensive driving, with no at fault accidents, moving or parking violations or unsafe driving complaints.
  Immediately reports or corrects any mechanical problem with vehicle to Supervisor.
  Washes, cleans and fuels vehicle as needed.
  Consistently records mileage and/or other essential trip information.
