Job summary

Indiana University Health seeks a Patient Transport team member for OR and ED support. The role focuses on moving surgical patients and supplies safely and efficiently within Riley Operating Room and across the hospital.

Responsibilities include patient handling, equipment readiness, and ensuring comfortable, continuous transport. No prior experience is required; 40 hrs/wk, 2pm-10:30pm shifts, on site.

Qualifications

• IU Health transition-to-work program approved graduates acceptable.
• Must follow oxygen transport policy and infection control policies.

Job description

Hours: 40 hrs/wk Monday-Friday 2pm-10:30pm
Location: Riley Operating Room
This role is primarily dedicated to Operating Room (OR) transport operations, providing seamless, safe, and efficient movement of surgical patients and materials. In addition to core OR duties, the team member will provide hospital-wide transport support, handle specialized duties including morgue runs, and ensure critical patient-handling equipment such as transport wagons and wheelchairs is properly maintained, gathered, and staged throughout the facility.

• Must have the ability to push patients in bed or wheelchair and stand for long periods of time

Requirements

• High school graduate or an equivalent combination of education experience from which comparable job knowledge can be acquired; to include graduates from an approved IU Health transition-to-work program.
• Requires training in all assigned competencies such as but not limited to patient oxygen equipment and monitoring of levels and amounts, patient lifting and transfers, and infection control policies.
• Requires the ability to follow oxygen transport policy and procedures, including attaching and monitoring of oxygen tank levels during transport.
• Must have the ability to frequently work in a standing position and do large amounts of walking.
• Must have the ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and be able to stoop, bend and twist while handling these weights.
• Must have the ability to use repetitive motions such as grasping, fine manipulating, medium dexterity, forearm/wrist rotation movement area used daily.
• Must have the ability to perform the basic patient lifting through in-service for proper technique.
• No experience required.
