Job description

UPMC Shadyside is hiring part-time Cardiac Transporters

Support the day-to-day operations of the Transportation Services Department located in Shadyside, PA. The days and shifts for these positions will vary.

The Transporters will be responsible for safely and efficiently transporting patients and equipment to and from nursing units and other departments throughout the hospital, following established policies and procedures. This fast-paced role involves walking approximately seven miles a day while interacting with patients and contributing to their quality of care.

Responsibilities
  1. Perform duties in accordance with system-wide competencies and behaviors.
  2. Perform other duties as assigned.
  3. Acquire electrocardiograms compatible with the electrocardiographic management system for nursing units, recognize and resolve computer error messages, and assist other departments as needed.
  4. Adjust equipment according to physician orders to establish protocols.
  5. Attach electrodes to patients, operate the EKG machine to obtain readings, and ensure proper placement and connection.
  6. Deliver supplies, equipment, medication, and materials safely and timely, ensuring proper handoff with nursing staff.
  7. Use electrocardiographic management systems and verify patient information, retrieve EKGs, and process charges as requested.
  8. Keep patients relaxed during electrocardiogram recordings and maintain professional, courteous interactions.
  9. Maintain a positive attitude, demonstrating caring, concern, and support for patients, visitors, staff, and coworkers, embodying Service Excellence principles.
  10. Prioritize STAT electrocardiograms, coordinating with unit staff to determine urgency.
  11. Safely transfer patients in and out of hospital beds.
  12. Transport patients, equipment, supplies, specimens, and morgue patients safely and efficiently between designated areas.
