Job summary

Advocate Health is hiring a transport transporter to assist with moving patients and equipment within the hospital. The role includes ensuring patient comfort, accurate identification, and coordination with clinical staff.

The successful candidate will operate hospital transport software and maintain equipment cleanliness and safety. No formal education is required and no prior experience is necessary; BLS certification may be required within six months.

Qualifications

• Excellent communication skills.
• Demonstrated experience in customer service.
• Satisfactory completion in safe patient handling for transporters within one month of start date.
• Ability to assess status of equipment for safe operation.
• Ability to determine best routes within hospital to reach destinations.

Responsibilities

• Lifts and transports patients to and from wheelchairs, stretchers or beds, positioning and securing patient with proper body mechanics.
• Transports patients and items (belongings, specimens, carts, wheelchairs, equipment) to destinations.
• Notify clinical staff immediately about changes in patient condition or equipment issues.
• Verify patient identification by comparing ticket and wristband.
• Use electronic software to track assignments (initiated, completed, delayed, or cancelled).
• Disinfects and inspects transport equipment; reports needed repairs and maintains equipment.
• Maintain confidentiality of patient information at all times.
• May collect patient equipment from soiled areas and assist with pickup/delivery of medications (excluding controlled substances).
