Responsibilities
- Transport patients to/from nursing and ancillary areas, and transport supplies and specimens to appropriate units.
- Assist clinical staff with patient transport as needed.
- Follow safety measures and proper body mechanics based on patient age.
- Identify patients correctly before transport according to policy.
- Greet and introduce yourself to patients courteously.
- Maintain contact with other transporters via Avaya phones.
- Display a positive attitude towards visitors and colleagues.
- Maintain patient confidentiality.
- Use proper telephone etiquette.
- Log patient arrival and departure times.
- Report faulty equipment and take it for repair.
- Inspect environment for safety hazards and report them.
- Transport equipment, supplies, and specimens properly.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Ability to maintain/update computer skills required for the role.
- High school diploma or GED.
- One year of customer service or clinical experience.
Physical and Work Environment
- Frequent sitting, standing, walking, bending, turning, reaching.
- Lift/carry up to 25 lbs and push/pull over 50 lbs.
- Exposure to patient hostility, bloodborne pathogens, and foot controls.
Skills and Abilities
- Handle multiple aspects of situations simultaneously.
- Process verbal and written information efficiently.
- Use reasoning and problem-solving skills for practical issues.
