Provides safe, efficient, and courteous guest/transport services to patients, visitors, and staff. Prioritizes service needs and performs customer service duties including transports, escorts, equipment requests, and basic patient care. Coordinates activities of patients, visitors, and staff throughout the facilities.

Essential Functions

  • Role models a positive Atrium Health image to patients, visitors, and staff by adhering to Our Atrium Health Way.
  • Delivers excellent customer service in transporting patients daily.
  • Provides guest/transport services such as transports, transfers, discharges, admissions, escorts, and transportation of materials and equipment, including medical devices/equipment (oxygen cylinders, IV pumps, PCA pumps, wound vac, etc.).
  • Coordinates activities to guide patients, visitors, and staff within the facilities.
  • Adjusts oxygen liter flow, determines PSI in oxygen cylinders, and transfers cannula tubing for wall units and cylinders.
  • Performs safe patient handling, including moving patients, patient lifts, and transfers (stand-pivot and lateral).
  • Provides education to patients and visitors on room orientation, transport process, and answers questions regarding support services or directs to appropriate resources.
  • Uses capacity management systems and equipment (Encompass/Epic, iPhone, Halo, computer) to process tasks.
  • Assists with the care and maintenance of transport equipment, ensuring safety and cleanliness, inspecting for defects, and reporting issues.
  • Monitors the environment to ensure safety and cleanliness, removing unattended equipment and ensuring access to electrical panels, fire extinguishers, and exits.
  • Maintains inventory of transport equipment such as stretchers, wheelchairs, beds, oxygen cylinders, IV poles, etc.
  • Completes required training, educational programs, and certifications.
  • Attends meetings as required.
  • Adheres to Atrium Health and departmental policies and procedures.

Physical Requirements

Works in a fast-paced indoor/outdoor environment. Requires prolonged standing and walking. Capable of lifting at least 50 pounds, pushing/pulling transport equipment, and working safely around hazardous materials.

Education, Experience, and Certifications

High school diploma or equivalent required. Good communication, organizational, and typing skills. Experience in guest services or hospitality is desirable. Experience in physically demanding environments preferred. BLS certification within 6 months required. Computer and data entry skills are advantageous.
