About Duke Raleigh Hospital, A Campus of Duke University Hospital

Pursue your passion for caring with the Duke Raleigh Campus in Raleigh, North Carolina, which has been part of Duke Health since 1998 and has served Wake County for more than 35 years. Duke Raleigh Campus features 204 inpatient beds and offers a comprehensive array of services, including cancer, cardiovascular, neuroscience, advanced gastrointestinal, and wound healing care.

Work Shift:

4 (10 hour) shifts with rotating weekends

Occupational Summary

Perform a variety of activities related to the transportation of patients, specimens, and equipment. Greet and assist patients and visitors at hospital and clinics as directed.

Work Performed

1. Transport patients to and from clinical, ancillary, and support areas via wheelchair, stretcher, or van service, including patients with oxygen tanks, intravenous pumps, drips, and special equipment.
2. Assist clinical personnel in transferring patients to and from beds, wheelchairs, or stretchers.
3. Assist people in and out of vehicles and escort or transport them to and from hospital lobby; carry luggage, open doors, and obtain messenger service for transportation to other hospital locations.
4. Approach, greet, and offer assistance and directions to customers entering the hospital.
5. Assist in loading and unloading patients onto ambulances and vans during periods of PRT non-service.
6. Collect specimens, orders, requisitions, and equipment and deliver items to appropriate destinations.
7. Assist in maintaining order and cleanliness in hospital lobby and entrance.
8. Assist nursing staff with removal of expired bodies from units and transport to morgue.
9. Participate in training of new employees.
10. Ensure patient is properly identified before transporting.
11. Ensure equipment is clean and functioning properly.
12. Transport to the OR, assist in room turnover, and confirm OR packet is signed, confirming method of transport and any special needs.
13. Attend educational programs as directed.
14. Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Requires good verbal communication skills to interact with patients, families, doctors, and clinical staff. Ability to follow oral and written instructions. Requires significant walking, lifting, and physical exertion. Operation of machines and equipment. Ability to lift, push, or pull 100-200 pounds. Requires full range of motion. Ability to transport patients to various hospital locations.
