Job Description:
Duties/Responsibilities
- Document patient trips using the Hospital Throughput computer program.
- Transport patients to and from care areas, assist patients to/from their vehicle as needed.
- Communicate with patients regarding their departure.
- Transport and move patients to and from care areas, including assisting with beds, wheelchairs, and stretchers.
- Assist staff with lifting or sliding patients as needed.
- Transport equipment under the responsibility of the Transport Department.
- Use mobile devices to access the Hospital Throughput Program.
- Assist patients with dressing/undressing as required.
- Obtain a “Ticket to Ride” from the nurse upon arrival and get the nurse’s signature before departing.
- Communicate with the patient’s RN before departure and upon arrival back to the room.
- Ensure safe parking of beds, stretchers, and wheelchairs, including using braking systems and lowering beds/stretcher before leaving.
- Inform patients about their arrival in a department and communicate with receiving departments, handing off the signed “Ticket to Ride”.
- Ensure patient safety before leaving, especially if departments are not immediately ready.
- Maintain cleanliness of patient equipment after each trip.
- Report equipment issues to management and create BioMed service requests for repairs.
Experience/Knowledge/Skills Required
- On-the-job training provided.
- Basic computer skills required.
- Customer service experience preferred.
- Healthcare environment experience preferred.
Education Required
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
Registration/Certification
- American Heart Association CPR/BLS certification.
Physical/Environmental Requirements
- Frequent bending, carrying, pulling, pushing, reaching, standing, stooping, walking, and lifting over 100 lbs.
- Occasional climbing stairs and lifting in excess of 50-100 lbs.
- Sitting, constant use of hearing, sight, speech, smell, touch, keyboard, and telephone.
- Constant concentration and problem-solving required.
- As a healthcare organization, vaccination against influenza and COVID-19 is mandatory for all staff.
