Job summary

UChicago Medicine AdventHealth in Hinsdale, IL is seeking a full-time Transport Assistant to safely move patients and equipment throughout the facility. You will communicate with patients, families, and staff; ensure timely transport; and maintain clean, efficient hallways by relocating unused equipment.

Responsibilities include assisting in patient transfers, operating stretchers and wheelchairs, and documenting movements.

Qualifications

  • People skills to understand customers’ needs and respond pro-actively in a courteous, professional manner.
  • Strong English communication, clear diction, and appropriate response across ages.
  • Ability to operate stretchers, beds, and wheelchairs.
  • Proficient in reading, writing, and following oral instructions in English.
  • Effective verbal and listening communication; service/quality focused.
  • Ability to navigate throughout the facility and multi-task in fast-paced environments.
  • Neat, professional appearance; customer-friendly demeanor.
  • Physical ability for frequent walking, standing, pushing, pulling, and patient transfers.
  • Able to use a computer for patient information and clerical tasks.
  • Willingness to learn software and departmental policies and procedures.
  • Collaborative work style with staff and other departments to meet patient care standards.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with staff, patients, and physicians to ensure timely care.
  • Proficient in performing care activities safely per standards of care.
  • Follow patient identification/verification before transporting patients.

Responsibilities

  • Transports patients using stretchers, wheelchairs, beds, and cribs safely and efficiently.
  • Moves equipment and supplies; keeps hallways clear by relocating unused items.
  • Communicates with patients, families, and healthcare staff to ensure smooth care flow.
  • Documents transport details accurately in the Transportation system.
  • Participates in ongoing training to improve skills and knowledge.

Job Description:
Schedule: Full-Time

Shifts areany day from 8 hours range from start time of 7:30 am to shifts ending at 10:30 pm

Maintains clear hallways by moving unused equipment to designated storage areas. Communicates effectively with patients, families, and healthcare staff. Ensures the proper handling and delivery of medical equipment and supplies. Participates in ongoing training and development to enhance skills and knowledge. Other duties as assigned. Assists in the safe transfers of patients from bed to stretcher or wheelchair. Facilitates the safe, efficient, and expedited movement of patients using stretchers, wheelchairs, beds, and cribs. Transports patient-related items such as belongings, paperwork, labs, and equipment efficiently. Accurately records transport details and reports necessary information using the Transportation system.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • People Skills: Ability to understand customers’ needs and respond to them in a pro-active, courteous, professional, and efficient manner.
  • Communication Skills: Able to communicate in English using good diction, and respond to peoples needs in a pleasant and courteous manner as perceived by the customer, and as appropriate to infants, children, adolescents, adults, and geriatric patients.
  • Technical Skills: Ability to operate stretchers, beds, and wheelchairs.
  • Must be proficient in the English language and able to read, write, and follow oral instructions.
  • Effective verbal and listening communication skills.
  • Service/Quality focused to meet a wide range of needs.
  • Ability to navigate to/from various locations throughout the facility.
  • Problem solver that can think quickly in cases of emergencies or unusual situations.
  • Ability to multi-task and work at a fast pace.
  • Displays neat, professional appearance with a smile.
  • Physical ability to withstand frequent to prolonged walking, standing, pushing, pulling, and transferring patients.
  • Must be able to use a computer for patient information and basic department clerical functions.
  • Excellent Customer Service skills.
  • Ability to quickly learn and use software packages and equipment relevant to the department.
  • Ability to quickly learn and follow departmental policies and procedures.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with peers, coworkers, clinicians, and other departments in meeting patient care standards.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all staff, patients, and physicians to ensure quality service and avoid delays in patient care.
  • Ability to proficiently perform all care activities safely and in accordance with standards of care.
  • Ability to follow patient identification/verification process prior to transporting all patients.
Education:
  • High School Grad or Equiv [Preferred]
Work Experience:
  • 1+ year public contact in a medical setting [Preferred]
Licenses and Certifications:
  • Basic Life Support - CPR Cert (BLS) [Required]
  • Driver's License (DL) [Preferred]

Pay Range:

$16.90 - $25.35
