Job summary

UCLA Health in Santa Monica, CA is seeking Patient Transporters and Lift Team Techs. These on-site roles move patients by wheelchair, bed, or gurney and assist with transfers between departments. You may also support dispatch and limited clerical duties for the transport function.

Qualifications

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association or Red Cross.
  • Interpersonal skills to interact diplomatically and sensitively with acutely ill patients.
  • Knowledge of basic computer skills to perform data entry and to obtain information from Hospital Systems utilizing a personal computer.
  • Ability to push, pull, lift a minimum of 150 pounds.
  • Knowledge of proper lifting techniques sustaining a safe work environment for self and co-workers.
  • Skilled in English language in both written and verbal format.
  • Good comprehension of written and verbal instruction.
  • Ability to strictly obey healthcare regulations for Infection Control, and follow UCLA Policies and Procedures.
  • Demonstrates a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of patient care in a hospital setting.
  • Transport and/or lift team experience.

Responsibilities

  • Positioning, transferring and transporting patients by wheelchair, bed, or gurney.
  • Assisting with the department dispatcher as required.
  • Assisting in the management of decedent affairs, such as transporting deceased patients to the morgue.
  • Deliver and pick-up specimens, blood, medical equipment, medical records, medications, and various other items.
  • Other activities as directed.
  • Assignments may vary between day and night shift, and participation in weekend coverage is required.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Patient Transporters and Lift Team Techs are unlicensed personnel whose primary functions include positioning, transferring and transporting patients to and from various departments or locations by wheelchair, bed, or gurney and lifting, turning, transferring and repositioning patients requiring moderate to total assistance. Transporters and Lift Techs may also perform teaching and training functions, dispatching function, and limited clerical duties for the transport function. Other role requirements include:

  • equipment maintenance and cleaning or disinfection
  • assisting with the department dispatcher as required
  • assisting in the management of decedent affairs, such as transporting deceased patients to the morgue
  • deliver and pick-up specimens, blood, medical equipment, medical records, medications, and various other items
  • other activities as directed.

Assignments may vary between day and night shift, and participation in weekend coverage is required. Schedule may vary and is determined by management.

Pay Range: $ 27.03 - $35.62 Salary offers are based on a variety of factors including qualifications, experience, and internal equity.
