Job summary

City of Hope Orange County is seeking a Patient Transporter to assist with transporting patients and medical equipment at its new cancer hospital in Irvine. Qualifications

  • 3 years or more in a Tech I role or similar healthcare position.
  • Current Driver’s license.
  • BLS from American Heart Association obtained within three weeks of hire.

  • Use lift and safety equipment for patient transfers.

Job description

City of Hope Orange County is transforming cancer treatment by bringing world-class expertise and specialized care closer to home. Supported by a regional network of care, our 11-acre academic cancer campus in Irvine is home to City of Hope Orange County Lennar Foundation Cancer Center, our outpatient cancer center, and Orange County’s only cancer specialty hospital, opening in late 2025.

With the opening of the hospital, the full continuum of advanced cancer care—from prevention through survivorship—will be available in Orange County for the first time, eliminating the need to travel for lifesaving treatment. Seamlessly connected to our outpatient cancer center, the new clinical research hospital will feature 73 inpatient beds, advanced surgical suites, groundbreaking clinical trials, and holistic services such as rehabilitative therapy and spiritual care. This isn’t standard cancer care. This is lifesaving cancer care. This is Hope.

This position will transport patients to various areas of the Medical Center. A patient transporter is also responsible for transporting patient care equipment in a 24-hour operation, 7 days a week. Functions include positioning, transferring and transporting patients to and from various departments or locations by wheelchair, bed, gurney or ambulette. This involves lifting, turning, transferring and repositioning patients requiring moderate to total assistance. Other role requirements include patient care equipment movement, specimens, maintenance, and cleaning or disinfection. Assignments may vary between day and night shift, and participation in weekend coverage is required

As a successful candidate, you will:

  • Transport patients to and from nursing units and ancillary departments as requested by wheelchair, gurney, bed and ambulette.
  • Use lift and safety equipment to transfer patients to and from different surfaces i.e., beds, wheelchairs, gurneys, automobile, or transportation service vehicle.
  • Transport deceased to body holding area, release deceased from body holding when requested.
  • Transfer and reposition patients requiring moderate to total assistance as needed.
  • Assist supervisor with responsibility for proper functioning transportation department.
  • Coordinate training for new and existing employees on department practices, policies and procedures.
  • Support the unit team by promoting unity and teamwork among co-workers by maintaining a positive attitude and positive working relationships.
  • Apply good verbal and non-verbal skills to achieve service goals of customer satisfaction and positive work environment.
  • Demonstrate ability to problem solve and confront issues appropriately.
  • Transport medical records, CDs, X-rays, patient care equipment, specimens, mail, reports, and other materials in response to requests or pages.
  • Clean and disinfection of patient care equipment.

Your qualifications should include:

  • High School diploma, GED or equivalent experience.
  • 3 years or more in a Tech I role or similar healthcare position or customer service field.
  • Outstanding customer service skills
  • Current Driver’s license
  • BLS from American Heart Association obtained within three weeks of hire, and
