Job summary

Geisinger is seeking a dedicated Patient Transporter to move patients and equipment within Hospitals and Clinics. You will assist with transfers, transport belongings, and help with equipment management in a clinically demanding setting.

Responsibilities include coordinating with floor staff, ensuring patient identification, using the transport tech, and following patient transport guidelines to support timely care.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED is required.
• Minimum of 1 year related work experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist floor staff with patient transfers to and from mode of transport.
• Transport patients, belongings and deceased to and from assigned departments.
• Assist patients in and out of vehicles and transport equipment.
• Lift and maneuver patients using proper body mechanics and equipment.
• Transport patient care equipment, specialty carts, and beds to requesting departments.
• Assist with equipment management by identifying those needing cleaning and repair.
• Transport soiled equipment to cleaning area and broken equipment to biomed for repairs.
• Clean soiled patient care equipment and stage for redistribution.
• Maintain wheelchair availability in staging locations.
• Greet patients, maintain eye contact, and communicate transport destination.
• Interact with patients professionally, avoiding exclusionary conversations.
• Collaborate with healthcare team to facilitate patient care and services.
• Receive transport assignments via smartphone.
• Identify patient prior to transport and verify identification band.
• Use technology system for transports.
• Use Delay and Postpone to manage process delays.
• Issue rental equipment and log equipment distribution.
• Adhere to Geisinger Patient Transport/Nursing Handoff Guidelines.
