Job Details

The Patient Transport Associate is responsible for transporting and transferring all patients to and from inpatient rooms, clinical testing areas, and procedural areas. The associate provides transportation using designated methods such as wheelchairs or stretchers, reports intended transport or return of patients to the nurse in charge, observes patients for adverse changes during transport, and verifies completion of transport tasks. They are also responsible for ensuring equipment is properly assembled, cleaned, maintained, and delivered.

Job Description

1. Follow safety policies and procedures concerning lifting, moving, and transporting patients.
2. Transport or transfer non-monitored/stable patients as directed.
3. Ensure IV drip rates, oxygen flow, or other equipment are checked by RN prior to transport, and observe during transport for any changes.
4. Properly identify patients before transport to or from service areas.
5. Transport patients via stretcher or wheelchair to clinical areas for treatment or diagnostics, and return them to their rooms at appropriate times.
6. Observe patients during transport for adverse changes and notify the RN immediately.
7. Report patient transport or return to the assigned nurse.
8. Ensure stretcher pads are wiped down and sanitized.
9. Assist staff in turning, lifting, and transferring patients between beds, treatment tables, stretchers, and wheelchairs.
10. Maintain cleanliness of equipment and notify personnel of damaged or unserviceable equipment, following safety policies.
11. Assist with post-mortem transports.
12. Keep the work area clean and organized as directed.
13. Follow all isolation and contamination policies in work areas.
14. Understand the role in disaster events and participate in drills.
15. Contribute to patient satisfaction initiatives.
16. Attend mandatory in-services annually.
17. Participate in performance improvement programs.
