Job summary

Baton-Rouge-General in Baton Rouge, LA is seeking a Contract Patient Transport team member to safely move patients between units, adhering to infection control and body mechanics while providing courteous, compassionate service. JOB PURPOSE OR MISSION: To safely transport patients. Job is performed appropriately for the age population served, as defined in the department’s scope of service.

PERFORMANCE CRITERIA

JOB FUNCTIONS
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS include, but are not limited to:
1. Transports patients to and from assigned locations.
PERFORMANCE STANDARDS:
  • Identifies self to staff on unit; retrieves patient charts/notes as needed.
  • Transfer patient from bed to stretcher or wheel chair following proper infection control and body mechanic procedures. Properly drapes/ covers patient. Request assistance from patient care staff as needed.
  • Transports patient to destinations, following all BRGMC rules and procedures.
  • Notifies patient care staff on receiving unit of patient’s arrival.
  • Transfers patient from stretcher, or wheel chair to bed etc., following proper infection control and body mechanic procedures. Ensures call button, phone, T.V. controls etc, are within patients reach. If appropriate all patient safety needs are complete before leaving the room.
  • Reports immediate completion of assignments using hand held device, accurately logs all transports per departmental practice and policy.
2. Maintains cleanliness and serviceability of transport equipment.
PERFORMANCE STANDARDS:
  • Cleans stretchers, wheelchairs, etc. according to established Infection Prevention guidelines.
  • Reports repair needs upon discovery. Removes damaged / unsafe equipment from use.
  • Checks quantity gauges and exchanges oxygen tanks, regulators, racks, etc. as needed.
  • Disposes of soiled linen properly after each patient transport.
  • Returns all equipment to proper location at end of shift.
3. Performs all other duties as required.
PERFORMANCE STANDARDS:
  • Provides lifting services to patient care staff as required.
  • Attends all required meetings and in-services.
  • Delivers mail, packages, medical records, medical equipment, etc., as requested.
  • Performs other and/or more complete duties as assigned by supervisor, within scope of individual ability and knowledge.
  • Responsible for moving unused beds, stretchers, wheel chairs and other medical equipment from the hallways and other unauthorized area, as needed.
  • Demonstrates courtesy and caring to patients and their families, physicians, all hospital staff, and the community.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

HIPAA REQUIREMENTS

Maintains knowledge of and adherence to all applicable HIPAA regulations appropriate to job / position including but not limited to: medical records without limitation both paper and electronic, patient demographics, lab and radiology results, patient information related to surgery or appointment schedules, information related to patient location, religious beliefs and/or public health records, medical records related to quality/data, patient financial information and/or 3rd party billing, and/or patient-related complaints.

SAFETY REQUIREMENTS

Maintains knowledge of and adherence to all applicable safety practices appropriate to Job Position including but not limited to: Incident reporting, handling of wastes, sharps and linen, PPE, exposure control plans, hand washing, environment of care, patient identification, validates, and transports patients, monitors clinical alarms, and displays proper use and storage of cleaning chemicals.
