Job summary

Beth Israel Lahey Health in Needham, MA is seeking a patient transport associate to support hospital units. The role performs transportation, stocking supplies and other duties to ensure smooth unit function during 10-hour shifts 1:00pm–11:30pm with every-other-weekend rotation.

You will transport patients, assist into wheelchairs or stretchers, respond to pages promptly, report observations to the nurse, and collaborate with a team to deliver safe, high-quality patient care.

Job Description

• Consistently demonstrates competence transporting patients to different departments as instructed.
• Consistently responds to pages in a timely manner.
• Assists patient into wheelchairs or stretchers, maintaining patient safety and proper body mechanics.
• Demonstrates responsibility for observation and application of sound judgment for patients' mental and physical condition and applies safety measures as necessary.
• Always report to the nurse any observations, patient complaints and other pertinent information regarding the condition of the patient.

Required Qualifications

Ability to read and write English. Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions. Willingness to work as a team member. Ability to work cooperatively and effectively with others.

Competencies

Written Communications: Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in written English with internal and external customers.

Oral Communications: Ability to comprehend and converse in English to communicate effectively with medical center staff, patients, families and external customers.

Knowledge: Ability to demonstrate basic knowledge of fundamental concepts, practices and procedures with the ability to use them in routine situations. Specialized knowledge not required.

Team Work: Ability to interact respectfully with other employees, professional staff and/or external contacts to offer ideas, identify issues, obtain information or deliver services.

Customer Service: Ability to provide a high level of customer service to patients, visitors, staff and external customers in a professional, service-oriented, respectful manner using skills in active listening and problem solving. Ability to remain calm in stressful situations.

Physical Nature Of The Job

Heavy work: Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally and/or 50 pounds of force frequently. Work is physically demanding and requires extended periods of standing and/or moving.

Pay Range

$17.00 - $22.88

The pay range listed for this position is the base hourly wage range the organization reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for this position at this time. Actual compensation is determined based on several factors, that may include seniority, education, training, relevant experience, relevant certifications, geography of work location, job responsibilities, or other applicable factors permissible by law. Compensation may exceed the base hourly rate depending on shift differentials, call pay, premium pay, overtime pay, and other additional pay practices, as applicable to the position and in accordance with the law.
