The Patient Transfer Coordinator optimizes and prioritizes patient flow activities throughout the System and coordinates the entry of patients into Methodist LeBonheur Healthcare (MLH) from other health care facilities.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate inpatient bed assignments for patients at Methodist LeBonheur Healthcare.
- Answer calls received at the transfer center, collect caller information, and determine the appropriate response.
- Respond to callers and connect them with the correct facility, physician, or department.
- Use the transfer center patient software to capture demographics, reason for call, patient information, transport times, and other pertinent data.
- Dispatch transports in accordance with Policy and Procedure.
- Dispatch calls efficiently and correctly following Policy and Procedure.
- Maintain familiarity with and comply with all established policies related to patient referral and transport.
- Provide exemplary customer service while representing MLH mission, vision, and values.
Education / Formal Training
Required
- Technical Degree or Diploma in Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)
Preferred
- Technical Degree or Diploma in Medical Assistant
- Technical Degree or Diploma in Nursing
- Technical Degree or Diploma in Paramedic
- Technical Degree or Diploma in Respiratory Care
Work Experience
- Required: EMT, Paramedic, RRT, LPN, RN with 1–3 years experience.
- Preferred: Medical call center experience with a Certified Medical Assistant background, 3–5 years experience.

- Understand and prepare moderately complex written materials such as patient records.

- Type and utilize computer systems and call center software.
- Organize multiple tasks and projects; maintain control of workflow.
- Demonstrate knowledge of EMTALA rules and regulations.
- Multi-task in a fast-paced call-center environment.
Supervision
There are no supervisory or lead responsibilities associated with this position.
Physical Demands
Requires prolonged sitting in a call-center environment; requires good balance, coordination, and visual acuity to perform tasks such as analyzing data, transcribing, and viewing a computer terminal; must react quickly and calmly to emergency situations.
