Job Summary

Perform routine assistive tasks to support the Registered Nurse in meeting basic patient needs, as an unlicensed assistive personnel.

Essential Functions

• All team members are expected to be knowledgeable and compliant with Prisma Health's values: Inspire health. Serve with compassion. Be the difference.
• Assist patients with personal hygiene needs, including bathing, hair washing, brushing teeth and hair, and hand washing.
• Support patients with nutrition and feeding, including assisting with eating, drinking, and setting up meal trays.
• Assist with ambulation, including dangling, walking, using assistive devices, and implementing fall prevention under RN supervision.
• Meet elimination needs, such as helping patients to the bathroom, using bedside commodes, bedpans, or urinals, and monitoring inputs and outputs.
• Complete and document vital signs, including blood pressure, pulse, temperature, heart rate, and oxygenation, reporting abnormal findings to the RN.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Supervisory/Management Responsibilities

This is a non-management position reporting to a supervisor, manager, director, or executive.

Minimum Requirements

• Education: Completion of a Nursing Assistant, Patient Care Tech, Medical Assistant, or Nursing Fundamentals course. High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Experience: Previous nursing assistant, medical assistant, or related experience preferred. One year of hospital clerical experience preferred.

In Lieu Of

• School verification of a nursing assistant training course can be substituted with current or former South Carolina CNA certification.
• School verification of a medical assistant training course can be substituted with current or former CMA certification.

Required Certifications, Registrations, Licenses

• Current CPR Heart saver certification.
• Successful completion of PrimaHealth unit secretary course and training within 90 days of hire.
• Basic Life Support, Heart saver certification, or higher preferred.
