Job Description

Patient Services Workers are responsible for a variety of duties related to receiving, interpreting, and following through on patient diet orders in hospital and long-term care settings. They act as a liaison between patients, the Food and Nutrition Services Department, and Nursing Services.

Job Responsibilities
  1. Deliver and collect patient trays during meal service. Deliver nourishments and/or snacks as ordered by physicians or dietitians in a timely manner. Visit patients to introduce the Food and Nutrition Services Department.
  2. Obtain food preferences or dislikes from patients and/or family members.
  3. Communicate all patient food needs to the appropriate Food and Nutrition Services staff.
  4. Ensure nutrition diet care orders are followed by offering appropriate menu selections.
  5. Maintain sanitation standards by following cleaning schedules and completing sanitation tasks as assigned.
  6. Inventory and restock pantries, refrigerators, and freezers on assigned units.
  7. Maintain temperature logs for refrigerators and freezers.
  8. Understand therapeutic diets using established protocols and seek assistance from supervisors or dietitians if errors are observed.
  9. Assist clinical staff in meeting patients' basic nutrition care needs.

Qualifications
  • Must be able to speak, read, and write English. Bilingual abilities are preferred but not required.

This role may involve physical demands such as lifting, bending, pushing, pulling, and extended standing or walking. Uniforms and/or Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) may be required.
