Job description

University of Pittsburgh Physicians is hiring a full-time Patient Services Representative to support UPMC Mercy Vision Institute, Mercy Pavilion located at 1622 Locust Street Pittsburgh PA 15219.

This role will work Monday through Friday daylight hours (start time varies based on clinic needs but office is open most days from 6:45 am to 5:30 pm). Minimal travel may be required (5%). This is a high-volume, fast-paced ophthalmology practice, serving an average of 350 - 450 patients per day.

Responsibilities:
  • Help patients navigate the healthcare system by providing clear instructions and follow-up to unresolved questions to ensure appropriate care continuity
  • Assist with administrative duties such as scanning medical records and faxing
  • Guide patients through self-arrival technology or check-in at the desk based on their preference
  • Schedule or connect patients to resources for ancillary services at checkout
  • Understand principles of service recovery and take appropriate action to address service issues
  • Assist patients with understanding financial responsibilities and connect them to advocacy resources as needed
  • Obtain signatures for consent to treatment and financial responsibility following HIPAA rules
  • Verify insurance benefits via online systems or phone inquiries
  • Promote and assist with registration for the MyUPMC patient portal
  • Collect copayments and other payments at the point of service
  • Provide a warm greeting to all patients
  • Register patients in the Biometrics program and explain its benefits
  • Update patient registration information at checkout
  • Distribute or triage phone calls appropriately
  • Schedule follow-up appointments during checkout
