Job summary

Avera Health in Sioux Falls is seeking a Clinic Receptionist to welcome patients and manage registrations. The role supports smooth access to care by verifying demographics, insurance, collecting payments, and coordinating schedules with nurses and physicians.

The candidate will handle calls, faxes, and messages, ensure accurate data entry, and guide patients to required services while upholding Avera’s CARE standards and confidentiality. This is a regular, day-shift, on-site position.

Qualifications

• High School or GED equivalent, or 1-3 months related experience.

Responsibilities

• Scans all pertinent information into the patient’s record.

• Coordinates nurse, physician and patient time to expedite care.
• Directs patients to ancillary services as needed.

A Brief Overview

Works in the various reception areas throughout the Clinic and is responsible for helping the patients to access the Clinic's system for care.

What you will do

• Welcomes patients, checking them in and completing registration which includes verifying demographics, insurance and collection of any service payments.
• Responsible for insurance verifications, authorizations and getting consent and waiver forms signed as appropriate.
• Responsible for scanning all pertinent information into the patient’s record.
• Answers and addresses calls, messages and/or faxes, routing them to appropriate individuals/departments if needed.
• Maintains computer appointment scheduling and follows office scheduling policies/parameters.
• Expedites delivery of care by coordinating nurse, physician, and patient time. Acts as public relations agent for the physicians by serving the patients in a friendly, efficient manner. Directs patients to ancillary services as needed.

Required Education, License/Certification, or Work Experience:

• High School or GED Equivalent or 1-3 months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
