Job Summary

Incumbents are responsible for aspects of Physician Practice front office management and operation as assigned. May be responsible for some or all front office functions as detailed below.

Essential Functions

  • All team members are expected to be knowledgeable and compliant with Prisma Health's values: Inspire health. Serve with compassion. Be the difference.
  • Responsible for complete and accurate patient registration, pre-certification, charge capture, and diagnosis coding as provided by physicians. Post payments, balance daily reports, and arrange pre-payments and financial agreements. Gather charge info, code, enter data, complete billing, and file insurance claims. Assist patients with insurance forms and unpaid accounts.
  • Serve as liaison between patient and staff. Greet patients, verify insurance info, assist with ambulatory difficulties, and maintain appointment schedules. Provide front desk support, screen visitors, and respond to inquiries. Gather and code outpatient charges, process payments, and update patient accounts. Handle billing info, perform cashiering duties, and maintain records. Work with patients on prepayments and financial arrangements. Participate in account resolution, outpatient coding, and error resolution. Communicate trends and update patient database. Schedule surgeries and follow-up appointments. Answer questions regarding testing and appointments. Prepare patient charts and update profiles. Oversee waiting area and patient movement.
  • Assist with insurance claims, benefits, and pre-certifications. Follow up with insurance companies, process benefit correspondence, and maintain records. Help patients complete forms for hospitalization or surgery pre-authorization.
  • Research billing information, code procedures, and diagnose charges. Input charge info online, process and distribute bills, and assist with outpatient coding. Manage charts, files, and records, including purging obsolete ones. Make new charts, repair damaged ones, and file records properly.
  • Collect payments at service time, review accounts for timely payments, and perform collection actions as needed. Establish payment plans, follow up on accounts, and resolve billing complaints. Gather and verify superbills, enter charges and payments, and verify daily reports. Back up and close daily files, update patient status, and maintain confidentiality. Participate in educational activities and perform related duties as assigned.

Supervisory/Management Responsibility

  • This is a non-management position reporting to a supervisor, manager, director, or executive.

Minimum Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent; associate degree in a related technical field preferred.
  • No prior experience required; experience in a multi-specialty group practice is preferred.
