This position serves as the first point of contact for clients and visitors at the Veterinary Teaching Hospital and the Veterinary College. It ensures proper registration of small and/or large animal patients, provides communication support to the college and hospital, serves as a contact for emergencies within the building, and interacts with Virginia Tech Police and College Security. The role may handle physical plant calls as needed and supports the Patient Services area in registration, admissions, and discharge.
The employee processes invoices, collects payments from clients, and is able to calmly and quickly handle patient emergency situations, ensuring personnel are contacted in a timely manner. General office duties include faxing, copying, scanning, uploading forms, and processing medical records. The employee offers general, infrequent after‑hours support via telephone. The position requires excellent communication skills, a calm and pleasant demeanor, and the ability to multitask. The goal is to ensure the client’s experience with the VTH is as smooth and efficient as possible. This position is considered essential personnel and the employee must report to work when the university is closed due to inclement weather.
