Northwestern Medicine is seeking a Patient Service Representative to welcome patients, verify demographics and insurance, and guide them through check-in and check-out processes. This role emphasizes exceptional customer service and accurate data collection in a fast-paced healthcare setting.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent required.
  • Previous experience in a customer service position is needed.
  • Bachelor’s degree and healthcare experience are preferred.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and bilingual abilities are advantageous.

Responsibilities

  • Checks patients in and out of appointments and collects required information.
  • Maintains waiting area cleanliness and comfort.
  • Communicates delays or changes in appointment status to patients.
  • Processes payments and co-payments as part of registration.
  • Ensures accurate patient registration and demographic/insurance details.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

The salary range for this position is $18.57 - $25.07 (Hourly Rate)

Placement within the salary range is dependent on several factors such as relevant work experience and internal equity. For positions represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range is guided by the rules outlined in the collective bargaining agreement.

Description

Patient Service Representative reflects the mission, vision, and values of Northwestern Medicine, adheres to the organization's Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines and all other regulatory and accreditation standards.

Patient Service Representative supports the service area by checking patients in and out of appointments. This role will consistently demonstrate exemplary customer service when assisting patients and guests.

Responsibilities:
  • Communicates with patients and guests including greeting them upon arrival, confirming identity and providing necessary information related to their visit.
  • Completes check-in/out functions as directed.
  • Confirms and updates patient identification and demographic/insurance information.
  • Completes patient registration as needed.
  • Obtains patient consents/authorizations.
  • Collects co-payments, past due balances and point of service payments.
  • Posts payments, process billing information and perform “end of day” cash drawer closing.
  • Keeps waiting area clean and comfortable.
  • Informs patients of any delays or changes in appointment status.
  • Schedules appointments as necessary.
  • May perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements
Education:
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent
Experience:
  • Previous experience in a customer service position
Preferred:
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Previous experience in a healthcare setting
  • Working knowledge of medical terminology
  • Bilingual
