Responsibilities
  • Typically the first point of contact in greeting patients, registering patients, and placing patient information into the electronic health record system. Schedule appointments, collect specified payments, and complete insurance eligibility verification. Follow policies and procedures in collecting and handling cash. Depending on the size of the area, may encounter a high volume of patients.
  • Effectively manage the patient check-in and check-out process from start to finish, including identification verification, updating or confirming demographic and insurance information, and ensuring appropriate forms are provided and completed accurately.
  • Collect specified co-pays and payments from patients per coverage specifications, and from self-pay patients. Screen for eligibility and financial assistance.
  • Ensure patient information is entered into the Electronic Health Record accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Confirm, request, and process referrals and authorizations for specialty services.
  • Contact patients to schedule appointments and make reminder/recall notifications.
  • Respond to customer billing and payment inquiries as needed; escalate billing issues as appropriate.
  • Maintain a proactive approach to customer service by listening to the patient, taking ownership of solutions, and accurately identifying customer needs with leadership support as needed.
  • Perform general clerical duties (e.g., scanning, data tracking, and handling correspondence and packages) in an accurate and efficient manner.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • High School diploma or GED required; or equivalent education/experience meeting essential job duties and any state or federal certification requirements.
  • Medical Assistant certification, C-NA certification, or Medical Terminology course preferred.
Experience / Skills
  • 1–3 years of experience in administrative/clerical support or customer service.
  • Experience in a healthcare environment preferred.
  • Ability to multi-task, stay flexible, maintain accuracy, and manage changing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work in a team-based setting or independently.
  • Strong computer literacy to enter information, manage and schedule appointments, and access electronic medical records.
  • Knowledge of cashiering functions with the ability to record payments and cash received.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills with a diverse patient population.
  • Basic understanding of medical terminology; confidentiality awareness.
  • Multilingual preferred (English, Spanish, Arabic, Somali) depending on priorities and locations.
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and situations.

In the spirit of pay transparency, the base salary range for this position is $23.00 - $27.49 per hour, exclusive of fringe benefits. Final base compensation will be determined based on location, qualifications, and experience. Hiring at the maximum of the range is unlikely to allow for future salary growth.
