Job summary

Delaware Eye Institute is seeking an enthusiastic, detail oriented, full-time Patient Services Representative for our Rehoboth Beach, DE office. Great work hours, robust benefits, and a team-oriented environment offer opportunities to grow in eye care.

The ideal candidate has at least one year of medical front desk experience or a strong customer service background; training is provided. This role requires multitasking, professionalism, and a patient-first approach in a busy ophthalmology

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.

  • Ability to remain calm and professional under pressure or stress.
  • Highly energetic with a positive attitude.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • One or more years’ experience in a medical practice preferred.
  • Knowledge of medical, vision and insurances preferred.
  • Basic computer knowledge; experience with NextGen, Microsoft, Clearwave preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Greet and welcome all patients and visitors upon arrival to clinic.
  • Follow all practice policies for check in/out processes.
  • Utilize various data collection methods (paper, electronic, kiosk, web).
  • Confirm and update patient demographic and insurance information.
  • Verify insurance eligibility and active coverage.
  • Calculate and collect copayments, deductibles, and balances.
  • Schedule return appointments and reminders.
  • Assist doctors, staff, patients and visitors professionally.
  • Maintain confidentiality of patient information.
  • Keep the reception area clean and organized.
  • Assist with inventory levels of retail items if applicable.
  • Handle inbound/outbound calls with proper etiquette.
  • Handle sensitive information confidentially.
  • Perform duties professionally and courteously.
  • Accept incoming packages; multi-location travel if needed.
  • Willing to work early mornings, late evenings, weekends as required.
  • Other duties as assigned

Our top candidate will bring at least one year of medical front desk experience in a busy ophthalmology, optometry or medical specialty practice. However, we are prepared to train a candidate with a background of strong tenure and progression in a retail and/or customer service field.

Patient Services Representative I will perform routine clerical and administrative work including greeting and assisting patients, insurance verification, management of appointment schedule and accurate record-keeping. The PSR has a significant role as you serve as the initial point of contact and make the first impression on all patients visiting the office. This is especially important in a medical environment where people may be apprehensive. Effective execution of this role will require the ability to multitask and respond to the needs of the patients and other staff efficiently and calmly.

Responsibilities:
  • Greet and welcome all patients and visitors upon arrival to clinic
  • Follow all practice policies and procedures for thorough and complete check in and check out process
  • Utilize multiple methods of data collection including paper, electronic, kiosk, and web-based applications
  • Confirm that accurate patient demographic and insurance information has been collected and update if necessary
  • Confirm insurance eligibility and verify active and participating coverage
  • Accurately calculate and collect patient copayments, deductibles, and due balances
  • Schedule return appointments and set up reminder notifications
  • Professionally assist doctor, staff, patients and visitors
  • Maintain confidentiality of all doctors, staff and patient information
  • Responsible for keeping the reception area clean and organized
  • Assist with maintaining proper inventory levels of retail items (if applicable)
  • Answer inbound and outbound phone calls with appropriate telephone etiquette
  • Handle sensitive information in a confidential manner
  • Execute duties of position in a professional and courteous manner
  • Accept incoming packages/postal mail including insurance mail, patient correspondence, interoffice mail, and direct to appropriate internal recipients
  • Must be willing to travel between locations to support front office operations (only applicable for multi-location practices)
  • Must be willing to work early mornings, late evenings, and weekends as required to support business needs
  • Other duties as assigned
