The Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care, & Sleep Medicine at BIDMC contains over 40 physicians and nurse practitioners providing care for patients with critical illnesses, lung/airway conditions, and sleep disorders. Our division is affiliated with Harvard Medical School.
The Patient Service Representative is the first contact for patients, responsible for answering, triaging, and scheduling provider appointments across our campus.
The schedule for this role is 8:30 am - 5 pm.
Job Description:
Job Summary: Directs patient access by answering, screening, and processing high call volumes in a dedicated call center.
Essential Responsibilities: Answer and triage calls professionally, use scripts and guidelines, schedule appointments using centralized systems, verify patient info, obtain referrals, and document payer information. Provide patients with necessary visit preparations, coordinate scheduling efficiently, and handle communication with providers and staff.
Required Qualifications: High School Diploma or GED, 1-3 years related experience, proficiency with computer systems, including web applications and Microsoft Office.
Preferred Qualifications: Call center experience, strong typing skills (40+ WPM), knowledge of medical terminology, bilingual communication skills.
Competencies: Decision making, problem solving, independence of action, effective written and oral communication, teamwork, customer service skills, and physical ability for sedentary work.
