Job summary

BJC Medical Group in Alton, Illinois is seeking a Patient Services Representative to be the first point of contact in the front office at the Alton Internal Medicine location. You will handle patient check-ins, appointment scheduling, and basic financial interactions to ensure a smooth patient flow.

This full-time day-shift role offers 40 hours per week, with no call, no weekends, and no holidays. Candidates should have a high school diploma and 2–5 years of healthcare front desk experience;

Qualifications

• 2-5 years of experience in a healthcare front desk/office setting.
• High school diploma or GED required.
• Experience with insurance verification and patient billing is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Handles telephone calls from patients and staff; forwards calls requiring triage.
• Performs receptionist duties with attention to detail and professionalism.
• Verifies health insurance payment information and educates patients on applicable regulations; collects payments and records data.
• Performs data entry of service charges, including diagnostic codes and charges for physicians and clinics.
• Coordinates information with Central Billing Office to ensure charges are captured and collected.

Role Purpose

The Patient Services Representative acts as the initial point of contact for front office activity and helps directs the patient flow process at the physician office. This position performs patient check-ins and appointment scheduling. This position also maintains patient financial records and may serve as a switchboard operator as needed.

Responsibilities

• Handles telephone calls from patients and staff; forwards calls requiring triage.
• Performs receptionist duties with close attention to detail and professionalism.
• Verifies health insurance payment information and educates patients on the applicable regulations; collects payments and records data.
• Performs data entry of service charges, to include the assignment of diagnostic codes and the entering of all physician and clinic related charges.
• Coordinates information with Central Billing Office to ensure all charges are captured and properly collected.
