Job Summary

Incumbents are responsible for aspects of Physician Practice front office management and operation as assigned. May be responsible for some or all front office functions as detailed in the next section.

Accountabilities
  1. Patient Registration and Billing (20%)
    Responsible for complete and accurate patient registration, pre-certification, charge capture, and diagnosis coding. Posts payments, balances accounts, arranges pre-payments, and enforces financial agreements. Manages billing, insurance claims, and unpaid accounts. Requires high public contact and interpersonal skills.
  2. Patient Liaison and Scheduling (20%)
    Acts as liaison between patient and staff. Checks in patients, verifies insurance, updates information, and assists with ambulatory difficulties. Maintains schedules, supports front desk operations, screens visitors, and manages patient flow and communication.
  3. Insurance and Benefits Assistance (20%)
    Assists patients with insurance claims, disability benefits, and pre-certifications. Follows up with insurance companies, maintains records, and ensures claims are paid.
  4. Medical Records and Coding (20%)
    Researches billing information, codes procedures and diagnoses, manages medical records, and ensures proper filing and destruction of obsolete records.
  5. Collections and Financial Counseling (20%)
    Collects payments, reviews accounts, contacts patients for collections, evaluates financial status, and manages payment plans. Handles patient complaints and participates in educational activities.
Supervisory/Management Responsibility

This is a non-management position reporting to a supervisor, manager, director, or executive.

Minimum Requirements
  • High School diploma or equivalent, or post-high school diploma
  • No previous experience required
Other Skills and Experience
  • Associate's Degree in a related technical field (preferred)
  • Experience in multi-specialty practice (preferred)
  • Basic understanding of ICD-9 and CPT coding (preferred)
