Job Roles

PATIENT SAFETY COMPANION

  • Remains with the assigned patient at all times to provide a safe environment.

  • Reports all pertinent information regarding the condition of the patient to the RN.

  • Considers factors related to patient safety. Communicates special patient care needs to the appropriate team member(s).

  • Identifies situations requiring immediate intervention and acts accordingly.

  • Examples include but are not limited to preventing the patient from falling, pulling at IV lines oridentifying any change in behavior.

  • Notifies clinical team members of all pertinent information regardingthe condition of patient and completes appropriate hand off per policy.

  • Communicates effectively and maintains high customer service with patients’ families, co-workers,physicians, and other health care workers.

  • Utilizes appropriate infection control techniques and supplies.

  • Demonstrates interpersonal skills and competencies for the: toddler, preschool, school age,adolescent, adult and geriatric patient.

  • Verifies correct patient identification using approved hospital patient identifiers.

  • Assures the Environment of Care is maintained by ensuring cleanliness and safety of patient careareas and quietness of the environment.

  • Performs well in and contributes to the success of department-specific Performance Improvementactivities and goals.

  • Demonstrates self-directed learning behaviors as evident in timely completion of all mandatoryeducation and competencies. Reads and responds to emails in a timely manner. Completes clocking in andout accurately and consistently.

  • Integrates ethical provisions and integrity in all areas of practice and with relationships withpeers, colleagues and leaders.

  • Partners with others to effect change and generate positive outcomes and apositive patient and family care environment.

  • Demonstrates active listening skills, clear communication,and empathetic presence with the patient, family and health care team.
