Aspirus Howard Young Medical Center in Woodruff, WI is seeking a Patient Safety Companion to join our Med/Surg team!

Under the direct supervision of a registered nurse, the Patient Safety Companion (PSC) is responsible for providing in-person, constant, alert observation and monitoring of patients demonstrating behaviors that pose a threat to self or others, while always maintaining a direct line of sight of the patient. In collaboration with the patient care team, the PSC ensures the patient environment is free of obstacles and minimizes the risk of falls and self-harm. The PSC may also assist with basic activities of daily living.

Hours: Occasional or 0.001 FTE, 0.8 hours biweekly, varied shifts.

Experience/Qualifications:

  • A high school diploma or GED beneficial.
  • Knowledge of patient care and customer service standards, normally acquired through the ability to read, write, and follow instructions.
  • Experience in a hospital or nursing home setting preferred; training provided upon hire.
  • Current BLS certification or obtained within 90 days of hire. All clinical personnel in this role are required to maintain BLS training through independent study, manikin, and knowledge testing, using an approved CPR training program such as the American Heart Association or the American Red Cross Professional Rescuer Program with AED.
  • Willingness to work in adverse conditions and convey a positive image.
  • Ability to read, write, remember, and follow verbal or written directions.
  • Excellent listening and communication skills.
  • Strong observation skills.
  • Ability to respond calmly and swiftly under pressure.
  • Ability to accept feedback and follow directions.
