Aspirus Rhinelander Hospital in Rhinelander, WI, is seeking a Patient Safety Companion to join our Critical Care Unit team!

Under the direct supervision of a registered nurse, the Patient Safety Companion (PSC) is responsible for providing in-person, constant, alert observation and monitoring of patients exhibiting behaviors that pose a threat to self or others while maintaining a direct line of sight. In collaboration with the patient care team, the PSC ensures the environment is free of obstacles and minimizes fall and self-harm risks. The PSC may also assist with basic activities of daily living.

Hours: Occasional 0.01 FTE, hours and shifts as needed.

Experience and Qualifications:

  • Experience in a hospital or nursing home setting preferred; however, training will be provided upon hire.
  • Current BLS certification or obtained within 90 days of hire. All clinical personnel in this role are required to maintain BLS training through independent study, manikin, and knowledge testing. Acceptable CPR training includes the BLS Healthcare Provider course from the American Heart Association or the American Red Cross Professional Rescuer Program with AED.
  • Willing to work in adverse conditions and convey a positive image.
  • Ability to read, write, remember, and follow verbal or written directions.
  • Excellent listening and communication skills.
  • Strong observation abilities.
  • Ability to respond calmly and swiftly under pressure.
  • Ability to follow directions and accept feedback.
