Meduflex is the inpatient Float Pool at MUSC, primarily covering callouts and extended leaves of absence, including family leave. As a Patient Safety Companion on the Meduflex Team, you may float to different inpatient units each shift at our three downtown locations: University Hospital, Ashley River Tower, and Shawn Jenkins Children’s Hospital. The team offers a float differential based on FTE.

The Patient Safety Companion reports to the Staffing Office and Hospital Supervisors for unit assignments. Under the supervision of a Registered Nurse, the role involves monitoring patients closely at all times to ensure safety, assisting with activities of daily living, and performing general patient care duties as directed. Immediate notification of patient concerns to the RN is required. When not on patient care duties, provides clerical support at the nurse’s station.
High school diploma or equivalent (GED) required. Patient care experience preferred.
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required within 2 weeks of hire, maintained thereafter through AHA or Red Cross recognized programs.
Extensive physical activity including standing, sitting, walking, climbing stairs, working indoors and outdoors, working from elevated areas, in confined spaces, bending, twisting, squatting, pinching, grasping, manipulation, reaching, lifting up to 50 lbs., and visual and auditory acuity. Ability to work rotating shifts, overtime, and in latex-safe environments. Additional sensory and physical qualifications may apply for selected positions.
