Job summary

The Medical University of South Carolina is hiring a Patient Safety Companion in Florence to support nursing staff and ensure patient safety on the unit. This PRN, hourly role reports to the Staffing Office and Hospital Supervisors and works under the guidance of Registered Nurses.

Responsibilities include monitoring patients at all times, assisting with activities of daily living, and performing clerical tasks at the nurse's station as needed. Training is required within 4 weeks of hire.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED is required.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) and MUSC Safety Care Training must be completed within 4 weeks of hire and maintained.
• Current American Heart Association BLS for Healthcare Providers or American Red Cross BLS is required.

Responsibilities

• Monitor the patient closely at all times under the supervision of the Registered Nurse.
• Assist patients with activities of daily living as directed.
• Notify the Registered Nurse immediately of any patient concerns.
• Provide clerical support for the nurse's station when not performing patient care tasks.
